Alcoa is hiring a Senior Remote Pilot & Technical Specialist - Drones

About the Role

Alcoa is seeking a Senior Remote Pilot & Technical Specialist to transform drone operations across our Australian sites. This role blends strategic thinking, high-precision piloting, and technical leadership to enhance safety, efficiency, and operational insight. You will be the go-to expert for integrating drone solutions into asset monitoring, environmental management, and production.

What You'll Do

  • Develop proposals and submissions for new operating capabilities, including drafting, consulting and negotiating with CASA.
  • Oversee day-to-day flight operations, reviewing and approving flight plans in line with regulations and internal procedures.
  • Identify and implement drone technology solutions across business units.
  • Lead deployment of new drone and sensor technologies, including documentation, licensing, and regulatory approvals.
  • Deliver training packages and coach experienced operators and citizen pilots.
  • Collaborate with the workforce and specialist pilots to deliver complex, high-impact solutions.
  • Drive safety initiatives and ensure compliance in industrial environments.

What We're Looking For

  • Current CASA Remote Pilot Licence for 25kg+ aircraft.
  • Minimum 500 hours of drone piloting.
  • Minimum 200+ hours in industrial inspection environments.
  • Operational and regulatory expertise with proven capability operating under a ReOC.
  • Strong track record in developing and deploying drone technologies.
  • Ability to integrate data into business management systems.
  • Previous experience in training development and delivery.
  • Physical capability to work safely in varied outdoor industrial conditions.
  • Willingness to travel with a flexible work approach.
  • Valid Australian Driver’s Licence.

Nice to Have

  • CASA Remote Pilot Licence for 150kg aircraft.
  • Endorsements such as OONP, EVLOS, and BVLOS OCTA.
  • Experience with DJI and Flyability equipment.
  • Demonstrated collaboration with CASA.
  • Familiarity with manned aviation.
  • Tertiary qualifications in technical, engineering, or business disciplines.

Work Mode

This is a hybrid role based in the South-West of WA or at Alcoa’s Portland Smelter in Victoria.
