As a Senior Protection Officer - PRoL with the International Rescue Committee, you will oversee field-level protection activities in Bangladesh, including case management, monitoring, and community-based protection. What You'll Do
- Build capacity, mobilize, mentor, and supervise community volunteers and field staff based on needs assessments.
- Support Protection Officers in identifying protection needs and delivering case management, Individual Protection Assistance (IPA), and referral services.
- Facilitate focus group discussions with refugees, site management, state actors, and service providers on protection concerns.
- Conduct FGDs and KIIs, ensure proper documentation, and accompany field teams to ensure protection monitoring follows standard methodology.
- Liaise with government and stakeholders for program support, including project need assessments, approvals, and monthly reports.
- Ensure protection-related internal and external reporting, including project completion reports, 5W reports, Sitreps, and protection monitoring reports.
- Maintain security protocols to protect sensitive information across all protection programs.
- Supervise Protection Officers to ensure cases are referred and conduct spot checks on referral responses.
- Lead awareness programs and community engagement on different protection concerns in camp settings.
- Work in emergency situations such as cyclones or monsoons in coordination with the team.
- Ensure protection mainstreaming training, support action plan development, and follow up on scorecards.
- Coordinate with partners for service referrals in camp and host community.
- Maintain remote communication with volunteers during access restrictions or emergencies.
- Lead area-specific service mapping and ensure information is regularly updated.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of assessments and evaluations to determine program impact.
- Assist management with procurement plans and purchase requests.
- Prepare volunteer monthly payment requests for finance.
- Submit bi-weekly reports on field protection concerns to the Protection Manager.
- Assist management in preparing monthly and donor reports.
- Engage with the MEAL officer to ensure data quality and support verification.
- Support hiring, supervising, and building the capacity of protection officers and volunteers.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, coaching, and capacity building for the protection team.
- Develop and manage capacity development plans based on needs assessments.
- Approve and manage time, attendance, leave requests, and timesheet submissions.
- Hold regular meetings with direct reports and address staff performance issues with HR.
- Maintain open professional relations, promote team spirit, and monitor staff care and well-being.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other programs, partners, donors, government actors, UN agencies, and NGOs.
- Promote and participate in initiatives to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of experience in protection or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Previous experience working with an NGO or INGO is required.
- Experience representing an organization in protection coordination and camp coordination meetings.
- Experience in FD-7, FD-6, need assessment, and monthly CiC reporting.
- Deep understanding of humanitarian protection principles and standards.
- Demonstrated organizational, management, and reporting skills.
- Ability to understand and respond to contextual gender dynamics.
- Ability to work well both within a team and independently, with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills with the flexibility, adaptability, and creativity to work in a challenging multicultural environment.
- Experience in success story and case study writing.
- Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bangla.

- Experience with protection programming is preferred.
