Position OverviewThe Senior Protection Officer - PRoL will lead and supervise protection activities in Bangladesh, focusing on Rohingya refugees and host populations in Cox's Bazar and surrounding regions. This role ensures high-quality implementation of protection case management, monitoring, community engagement, and Individual Protection Assistance in alignment with humanitarian standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor field staff and community volunteers, conducting capacity assessments and developing training plans to strengthen team performance
- Support identification of protection risks and deliver case management services, including referrals and Individual Protection Assistance for vulnerable individuals
- Conduct and oversee focus group discussions and key informant interviews, ensuring accurate documentation and data entry
- Accompany field teams to monitor adherence to protection methodologies and support quality assurance
- Coordinate with government agencies, UN bodies, NGOs, and service providers to strengthen referral pathways and program integration
- Prepare and submit regular reports, including Sitreps, 5W, project summaries, and donor updates, in coordination with the Protection Manager
- Ensure data confidentiality and compliance with security protocols for sensitive protection information
- Lead community awareness sessions and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms
- Respond to emergencies such as cyclones and monsoon events, adapting protection programming as needed
- Support protection mainstreaming by developing action plans, tracking progress, and training staff and partners
- Manage service mapping exercises and maintain up-to-date referral directories for field use
- Contribute to assessments, evaluations, and research to measure program impact
- Assist in procurement planning, budget tracking, and preparation of payment requests for volunteers
- Produce bi-weekly summaries of field-level protection concerns, including trends and response strategies
- Collaborate with MEAL staff to ensure data accuracy in household and community assessments
- Support verification processes and data quality checks as required
- Recruit, train, and supervise protection officers and volunteers, providing on-the-job coaching and technical support
- Develop individual capacity-building plans based on performance assessments
- Manage team schedules, attendance, leave, and performance reviews in line with organizational policies
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports and address performance issues in coordination with HR
- Promote a supportive work environment that emphasizes staff well-being, inclusion, and professional growth
- Model balanced work practices and support interventions addressing staff care needs
- Build strategic relationships across sectors to position the organization as a leader in protection response
- Facilitate weekly protection monitoring activities, including observation and data collection tools
- Strengthen case referral networks and maintain coordination with external actors
- Develop and share field work plans based on priority areas identified by management
- Produce weekly activity reports highlighting protection trends and recommended actions
- Update service mapping data monthly to ensure current and accessible referral information
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience in humanitarian protection, with at least two years in a supervisory role
- Prior work with NGOs or international agencies in protection or related programming
- Strong grasp of humanitarian protection principles, standards, and gender-sensitive approaches
- Proven ability to manage teams, organize workloads, and meet reporting deadlines under pressure
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills in English and Bangla
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in complex, multicultural environments
Preferred Experience
- Background in protection program design and implementation
- Experience representing organizations in protection and camp coordination forums
- Familiarity with FD-6, FD-7, needs assessments, and monthly CiC reporting
- Track record in writing success stories and case studies
Work Environment
This is an onsite position based in Ukhiya, Bangladesh. The role operates within a dynamic emergency response context requiring flexibility and resilience. The position is currently funded until September 30, 2026, with strong potential for extension.
