Ashland Inc. seeks a Senior Process Safety Engineer to lead process safety improvement initiatives and activities across the organization. This is a remote-based position reporting to the EHS Director and involves approximately 30% travel to global facilities.
What You'll Do
- Provide leadership in driving the company’s efforts toward safe, compliant, and responsible operations with a primary emphasis on achieving zero process safety incidents.
- Act as the main point of contact for multiple global facilities regarding process safety performance, technical support, and adherence to regulatory requirements and Ashland’s Global Process Safety Standard.
- Apply technical knowledge to process safety incident investigations and work with manufacturing teams to implement improvement recommendations.
- Lead internal and external resources for Process Hazard Analysis/Layer of Protection Analysis (PHA/LOPA), Combustible Dust Assessment (CDA), Facility Siting risk assessment, and Consequence Modeling.
- Participate in or direct outside resources to complete process safety compliance audits.
- Provide guidance on process safety for transitioning new processes from laboratory to production.
- Track and report PSM Tier 1 and 2 process safety events.
- Ensure process safety relief calculations are performed appropriately, with input from Ashland’s Asset Integrity & Reliability Group.
- Provide guidance on and update Ashland’s process safety procedures regarding regulatory updates.
What We're Looking For
- A relevant science or engineering degree.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in process safety and/or a related process engineering field within the chemical manufacturing industry.
- Experience working in a specialty chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, or refinery setting.
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and RAGAGEP (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, NJDEP, Seveso, API, NFPA, DIERS).
- Expertise in PSM elements with a focus on PSI, PHA, MOC/PSSR, and MI.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 30%, both domestically and internationally.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge in consequence modeling and/or process simulation software (e.g., PHAST, Superchems, Aspen).
- Experience in pressure relief design and analysis (DIERS).
- Experience working in both a manufacturing and a corporate setting.
- Process safety certification (CCPSC) or the ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Leadership experience in a Technical Area.
