OpenMined is looking for a Senior Policy Manager to lead our EU policy initiatives and shape the regulatory landscape for privacy-enhancing technologies. You will engage directly with EU policymakers, contribute to regulatory frameworks, and ensure our technical solutions align with evolving privacy regulations while supporting our global infrastructure deployment strategy.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute OpenMined's EU policy strategy, focusing on network-sourced AI and distributed privacy-preserving infrastructure.
- Monitor and analyze EU legislative developments including the AI Act, Data Act, DSA/DMA and GDPR implementation.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders in the European Commission, European Parliament, and member state governments.
- Represent OpenMined in policy forums, consultations, and working groups.
- Build coalitions with privacy-tech companies, research institutions, and civil society organizations to advance common policy goals.
- Translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable guidance for technical teams.
- Ensure OpenMined's tools and frameworks align with EU data protection and AI governance requirements.
- Develop policy briefs and position papers on emerging regulatory issues.
- Support OpenMined’s community in understanding regulatory implications for privacy-preserving technologies.
- Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to inform technical development and infrastructure investment decisions.
- Partner with the Education team to develop policy-related educational content.
- Collaborate with internal and community researchers to translate technical innovations into policy recommendations.
- Coordinate with global policy colleagues to ensure consistent messaging and approach.
- Support Leadership in developing policy-informed partnership frameworks and deployment strategies.
- Author blog posts, research papers, and policy briefs on privacy-preserving AI.
- Speak at conferences and events on the intersection of technology and policy.
- Contribute to public consultations and regulatory impact assessments.
- Build OpenMined's reputation as a trusted voice in EU tech policy.
- Monitor and research emerging policy issues to assess strategic partnerships and organization positioning.
What We're Looking For
- 3-5 years of experience in EU technology policy, with deep expertise in data protection and AI governance.
- Strong understanding of EU legislative processes and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven track record of successful policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience translating between technical and policy communities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Deep commitment to privacy, open-source, and democratizing access to AI.
- Willingness to travel.
Nice to Have
- Advanced degree in law, public policy, computer science, or related field.
- Technical background or demonstrated ability to understand complex privacy-preserving technologies.
- Experience working with open-source communities.
