Optum Tech (UnitedHealth Group) is hiring a Senior Network Consultant

This role is central to the design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of enterprise-grade network infrastructure across global data centers and DMZ environments. The Senior Network Consultant leads architectural decisions, ensures network reliability and security, and drives automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency. Working closely with Security, F5, and SD-WAN teams, this position plays a key role in integrating advanced networking solutions, mentoring junior engineers, and maintaining 24x7 operational readiness. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to innovation and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document scalable, redundant network architectures for remote data centers and DMZ environments using Visio and Draw.IO
  • Manage end-to-end network change controls via ServiceNow, including work planning, approvals, and adherence to standardized Methods of Procedure to reduce operational risk
  • Maintain accurate network device inventories and coordinate with vendors to proactively address hardware and software vulnerabilities
  • Develop and automate repeatable processes using tools like Ansible and NetBrain, and standardize documentation for network designs and IP migrations
  • Establish and enforce integration procedures for remote data centers and product lifecycle management using detailed checklists
  • Participate in a 7x24 on-call rotation to resolve critical network incidents and ensure continuous mission-critical operations
  • Collaborate with Security, F5, and SD-WAN teams to align technical strategies and deliver reliable, customer-focused services
  • Guide and mentor engineering teams, promoting a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and adherence to best practices
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies by maintaining strong vendor relationships to keep infrastructure modern and competitive
  • Comply with all employment terms, company policies, and operational directives, including potential reassignments or changes in work arrangements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in enterprise network engineering
  • Extensive experience deploying and managing large-scale SD-WAN solutions
  • Proven experience using ServiceNow for change management, including Methods of Procedure and technical approvals
  • Strong background in designing and documenting RDC and DMZ network architectures and IP migration plans
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and enforcing technical standards
  • Expert-level knowledge of Cisco routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, VRFs, ACLs, and static routing
  • Proficiency with network automation tools such as Ansible and NetBrain
  • Skilled in network design and documentation using Visio or Draw.IO
  • Experience working in a 24x7 on-call environment for incident response
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring and analysis tools including NNMi, Splunk, and Wireshark
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Security, F5, and SD-WAN teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Additional Information
