Braze is seeking a Senior Manager, Payroll Tax Amendment to own the strategic vision and operational execution of our critical tax compliance function. You will lead the process to ensure scalability, auditability, and adherence to regulations, while building and coaching a new team of professionals.
What You'll Do
- Elevate the strategic vision for critical tax compliance processes and define internal policy.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Accounting to establish standards and mitigate risk.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to re-architect data extraction logic for tax amendments.
- Ensure business continuity by documenting core logic, error handling, and reconciliation processes.
- Integrate the amendment process with comprehensive workbooks for data consistency and audit trails.
- Automate workflow to reflect changes and provide accurate reports and analysis.
- Implement advanced formulas for automatic calculation of tax implications.
- Administer and document the approval process within workbooks.
- Establish workbooks as the centralized information and tracking hub.
- Build, lead, and manage a new team of Tax Amendment professionals.
- Perform all managerial duties: hiring, performance management, and separation.
- Mentor team leads and specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration.
- Direct the execution and maintenance of Tax Amendment SOPs and SLAs.
- Oversee the creation and filing of amended Federal, State, and Local tax returns via Mastertax.
- Direct the research and resolution of complex amended tax return issues.
- Proactively triage issues to identify systemic trends and engineering intervention needs.
- Ensure adherence to compliance by proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks.
- Maintain deep subject matter expertise in R&D, ERTC, and other payroll tax credits.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize the efficiency and accuracy of the tax amendment function.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 8+ years of progressive management experience in payroll tax compliance.
- At least 3 years at a Senior Manager or Director level.
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in complex, multi-jurisdictional payroll tax amendments and reconciliation.
- Familiarity with quarterly and year-end filing cycles.
- Proven experience collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to solve operational challenges.
- Expert proficiency in tax filing software (MasterTax required).
- Advanced analytical skills (Excel/Sheets) for complex data modeling.
- Process-driven while able to be resourceful and adaptable.
- Experience with multi-state accounts for a single large employer or a large multi-employer.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex processes clearly.
Nice to Have
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is strongly preferred.
