Responsibilities
- Direct the creation, execution, and continuous management of the internal payroll system, including HRIS payroll setup and general ledger integration.
- Set up and oversee multi-state payroll processes, including tax registrations, filings, deductions, PTO accruals, and holiday management.
- Implement robust payroll controls, approval workflows, audit processes, and standard operating procedures.
- Conduct parallel payroll testing and manage the transition from external payroll services to in-house processing by January 2027.
- Ensure precise and timely bi-weekly payroll processing with no missed deadlines.
- Handle payroll-related compliance, audits, and responses to regulatory inquiries.
- Collaborate with Finance, HR, IT, and Legal departments to support payroll operations and acquisition integrations.
- Lead payroll onboarding for newly acquired centers, including data migration and system configuration.
- Manage year-end processing, including W-2s, 1095-Cs, and reporting requirements.
- Develop scalable playbooks, documentation, and training to support organizational growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 7–10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state operations.
- 3+ years in a senior or leadership role within payroll or HR operations.
- Hands-on experience configuring and administering HRIS payroll systems.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, wage and hour regulations, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivots, lookups, complex formulas).
- Proven experience building or improving payroll processes and controls.
Nice to Have
- Experience leading transitions from external payroll services to in-house payroll.
- Experience in the healthcare, ASC, or multi-site services industry.
- Experience supporting payroll through acquisitions or mergers.
- Familiarity with platforms such as UKG, Workday, Paylocity, and SAGE Intacct.
- CPP or FPC certification.
