DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, part of Tenet Healthcare, is hiring a Senior Lab Assistant to join our Anatomic Pathology team. Under general supervision, you will perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing tasks while assisting in training staff, troubleshooting problems, and promoting our organizational values.
What You'll Do
- Assist in training staff on Anatomic Pathology and specimen processing policies.
- Troubleshoot routine or moderately complex processing and Anatomic Pathology issues.
- Prioritize, process, and ensure the integrity of incoming patient specimens using specialized techniques.
- Set up, maintain, and clean designated work areas and equipment, including the Gross room and dissection area.
- Collaborate with staff and Pathologists, labeling specimens, vials, and slides according to protocols.
- Assign accession numbers, prepare specimens for reference labs, and perform special processing like Acid wash or Decalcification.
- Maintain daily records, logs, and input data for workload tracking.
- Conduct routine quality control checks on equipment and report unusual findings.
- Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, scheduling, and maintaining records.
- Check organizational communication daily, including Outlook and laboratory software.
- Act as an in-charge designee in the absence of the group leader or supervisor.
- Serve as a resource to Lab assistants, answering questions on policies and procedures.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience in specimen processing and/or a pathology laboratory environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to enforcing safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
Nice to Have
- Associates Degree.
- Six (6) months of experience in Anatomic Pathology.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Previous leadership experience.
- Customer service experience in a service environment.
