About the Role

SP Energy Networks is hiring a Senior Engineer to join our new Communications Systems Diagnosis team within Network Digitalisation. This role is central to the design, development, and deployment of our Secondary Communications network, focusing on modernisation and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Design, test, and develop all new Secondary Communications equipment to support NCP modernisation and LV Monitors across all SPEN licence areas.
  • Perform configuration and network acceptance of deployed devices, including 4G routers and LV Monitors.
  • Manage assets using management tools for remote restoration and defect resolution.
  • Drive continual network and device performance improvement through data analysis and feedback.
  • Ensure Network Telecom and Modern Device asset management complies with the Network & Information System (NIS) Regulations.
  • Develop skills within the team through mentoring and training less experienced members, graduates, and trainees.

What We're Looking For

  • Knowledge of operational telecoms networks and architectures, including legacy and modern data transmission, networking technologies, wireless, and mobile.
  • Knowledge of the NIS regulations and the wider regulatory framework.
  • Experience in asset management within a utility environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of operational reporting to balance workloads, financials, and programme load.
  • General commercial awareness with ability to balance customer service, efficient network design, and return on investment.
  • Track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all organisational levels.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgement.
  • Qualified to HNC/Degree level or equivalent in Electrical or Telecoms Engineering, or suitable experience in an engineering role.
  • Experience ideally gained through technical, development, operations, or network management roles.
