AECOM is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer, Data Centers

About the Role

This role involves leading electrical design efforts for data center infrastructure, including power distribution, lighting, and backup systems, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver scalable and resilient solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of electrical designs for large-scale data center facilities
  • Perform load calculations and size electrical equipment such as transformers and switchgear
  • Create single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and construction documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with NFPA, NEC, and other applicable codes
  • Coordinate with mechanical, structural, and technology teams on integrated solutions
  • Review contractor submittals and provide technical clarifications
  • Support project management with estimating, scheduling, and risk assessment
  • Conduct site inspections and oversee construction administration activities
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements for power efficiency
  • Prepare technical specifications for electrical components and systems
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide design guidance
  • Integrate sustainable design practices into electrical systems
  • Work with clients to understand project requirements and performance goals
  • Develop and maintain design standards for repeatable data center configurations
  • Troubleshoot design issues during construction and commissioning phases
  • Ensure redundancy and fault tolerance in critical power systems
  • Collaborate with commissioning agents to verify system performance
  • Apply arc flash and power system studies to enhance safety
  • Utilize engineering software for modeling and simulation
  • Maintain quality control throughout design and documentation phases
  • Support permitting and regulatory approval processes
  • Interface with utility providers for service coordination
  • Design uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and backup generators
  • Optimize system layouts for maintainability and scalability
  • Stay current with evolving data center industry trends and standards
