Amgen Inc. is hiring a Senior Counsel – Biotech Patent Law - Biosimilars

Amgen is looking for a Senior Counsel – Biotech Patent Law - Biosimilars to join its mission-driven team. You will play a key role in developing and executing intellectual property strategies for our biosimilar and innovator molecules in a collaborative, science-based culture focused on serving patients.

What You'll Do

• Develop, implement, and execute a market access strategy for Amgen's biosimilar and innovator molecules.
• Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses for drug substance, drug product, formulations, processes, and methods of treatment.
• Handle all aspects of intellectual property, including identifying relevant patents, conducting prior art searches, analyzing third-party patents, and drafting legal opinions.
• Develop persuasive legal arguments, work with experts, and perform pre-litigation activities.
• Create and implement global freedom-to-operate strategies in collaboration with other in-house attorneys.
• Draft and prosecute patent applications and provide support for patent litigation.
• Develop and counsel others on intellectual property strategies connected to Amgen's business and research.
• Work independently, in legal teams, and in cross-functional business teams.

What We're Looking For

• J.D. degree or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
• Four (4) years of experience practicing intellectual property law.
• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Nice to Have

• 7+ years of experience practicing patent or intellectual property law.
• Experience in U.S. and/or foreign intellectual property law relating to biotechnology at a law firm or biotechnology/pharmaceutical corporation.
• Experience in U.S. and/or foreign adversarial proceedings like patent litigation, Inter Partes Reviews, or oppositions.
• Experience developing and implementing a global freedom-to-operate strategy.
• Undergraduate degree in the sciences and a working understanding of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, or a related field.
• An advanced degree such as a Master's or Ph.D., or research experience in a relevant scientific area.
• Excellent judgement, analytical skills, and legal drafting and communication skills.
• Strong management and client counseling abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in teams, navigate ambiguity, prioritize workflow, and manage multifaceted projects in a fast-paced environment.

• Compensation range: $270,109 - $320,613 USD
