Role Overview
As a Security Engineer II, you will play a key role in strengthening organizational defenses by leading incident response, designing security solutions, and maintaining compliance with critical regulatory standards. You will operate within a hybrid environment, contributing to both strategic initiatives and day-to-day security operations, including participation in an on-call rotation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end incident response, including investigation, containment, and recovery efforts
- Design, deploy, and manage security technologies in alignment with organizational directives
- Administer and monitor 2–3 core security applications
- Diagnose and resolve issues across cybersecurity platforms and tools
- Assess and report on the effectiveness of enterprise security capabilities using automated and manual methods
- Create, update, and enforce security policies, standards, and operating procedures
- Collaborate with IT and business teams to promote security awareness and alignment
- Review systems for compliance with security requirements and conduct risk and impact analyses
- Develop and audit enterprise-wide security controls to ensure robust protection
- Produce training materials and communication content to support security awareness programs
- Support audits and compliance initiatives related to HIPAA, PCI, and other regulatory frameworks
- Participate in on-call rotations to respond to security events as needed
- Conduct in-depth incident investigations and contribute to continuous improvement
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field, or demonstrate relevant experience paired with professional security certifications. A minimum of three years in mid-level cybersecurity roles is required, with proven experience in managing security applications and leading security projects.
Essential qualifications include:
- One advanced or expert-level cybersecurity certification
- Strong knowledge of information security principles and practices
- Experience with network, application, and systems security architecture
- Familiarity with security controls across desktop, server, database, and application environments
- Proficiency with tools including email security, DLP, vulnerability management, IDS/IPS, EDR, anti-malware, and proxy systems
- Understanding of HIPAA, NIST, and project management frameworks
- Advanced incident investigation skills
- Ability to work independently and lead initiatives with minimal supervision
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service abilities
Work Environment
This position follows a hybrid model, combining remote work with periodic on-site presence. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with participation in a 24/7 on-call schedule. The primary location is in Skokie, IL.
