The Jane Goodall Institute is hiring a Roots & Shoots Tampa Bay Area Basecamp Coordinator to grow our youth-led community action movement. You will build relationships, recruit and engage volunteers, and collaborate with donors, youth leaders, and community organizations to support initiatives that respond to local needs. Bringing creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit, you'll add structure to a grassroots movement while embodying equity and inclusion in all aspects of your work.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate and grow the Tampa Bay Roots & Shoots Alliance, a coalition of local mission-aligned organizations.
- Provide branding, logistical, and marketing support for the Alliance’s activities.
- Organize and facilitate regular Alliance meetings, addressing barriers to participation.
- Serve as a liaison between local partners and the Roots & Shoots national team.
- Recruit and support local group leaders, educators, mentors, and parents to strengthen the program’s network.
- Encourage and support adult mentors to facilitate existing and new Roots & Shoots groups and projects.
- Identify and recruit youth leaders through educator and institutional networks for local events and activities.
- Convene Roots & Shoots youth leaders for 1-2 gatherings per year to foster leadership development.
- Plan and coordinate inclusive in-person and virtual events to showcase projects and celebrate participants.
- Represent Roots & Shoots at local conferences, school visits, community events, and outreach opportunities.
- Recruit and organize volunteers to assist with Basecamp events and other JGI activities.
- Manage a small grants budget to support local Roots & Shoots groups in implementing community projects.
- Maintain Basecamp webpage and grant-making database.
- Support national initiatives as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated knowledge of Tampa Bay community concerns, opportunities, and networks, including organizations led by and serving Black, Indigenous, People of Color, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and people with disabilities.
- Comfort working with office software.
- Ability for some national travel (1-2 trips/year) and local travel (mileage reimbursed).
Nice to Have
- Nonprofit program coordination or management experience.
- Expertise in community organizing, volunteer recruitment and coordination, event planning and management, classroom teaching, after-school programs, summer program leadership, informal education coordination, or youth leadership development.
- Experience with Salesforce CRM.

Work Mode
This is a local position based in the Tampa Bay, Florida area. Local travel is required.
