Responsibilities
- Deliver first aid care and administer medically prescribed services
- Collect and review consent forms for medication administration at school
- Record each instance of medication administration
- Train designated staff on how to administer and document medication
- Ensure the security of school health supplies
- Teach students about health education topics
- Communicate with parents and medical providers regarding student health needs
- Document immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data
- Maintain accurate related service logs and update them weekly
- Coordinate and communicate with administrative staff, teachers, and other related service personnel as needed or as directed by the IEP
- Develop Individual Health Care Plans for students with allergies
Requirements
- Current and active Registered Nurse license
- Extensive knowledge of medical and mental health disorders and their treatments
- Extensive knowledge of child growth and development
- Working knowledge of public health issues and treatment procedures in coordination with other health and social service agencies
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting school health services delivery
- Some knowledge of the school organization and the community it serves
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agency, and other community resources
