The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is hiring a Residential Peer Mentor to live in a residence hall for a two-week summer session supporting high school students learning English as a second language. You will play a key role in mentoring students, leading recreational activities, and ensuring a safe, supportive residential environment.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a mentor and resource to participants by supporting their social and personal development.
- Supervise and escort students during classes, meals, activities, residence hall living, and field trips.
- Monitor study sessions, provide tutoring, and meet regularly with students to offer guidance and feedback.
- Encourage participation in program activities while modeling positive leadership and enforcing program rules and policies.
- Provide transportation as needed, support the USDA Summer Food Service Program, ensure the proper return of supplies and equipment, and complete other assigned duties.
- Lead students in activities Monday – Friday from 3:00PM until 10PM, and on weekends, and supervise students overnight and at mealtimes.
What We're Looking For
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness of the needs of students from diverse backgrounds, including English language learners.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the ability to take direction and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Sophomore-level students or higher & continued enrollment at UWSP.
- Minimum 2.25 cumulative GPA.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of residence hall policy and experience enforcing policy.
- Knowledge or experience directing team sports and outdoor recreation.
- Certification in first aid, CPR, and lifesaving.
- Knowledge of a language other than English.
- Wisconsin driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Major in Education or English as a Second Language (ESL).
Team & Environment
The Residential Peer Mentor will report directly to the Hall Director and Zong Vang, EFC Coordinator, as immediate supervisors. The Hall Director will also live in the residence hall.
Benefits & Compensation
- $1,500 for the two-week period.
- Full room and board for the two-week residential program.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position requiring full-time residence in the campus housing for the duration of the program.
