Community Residences is looking for a Residential Instructor dedicated to supporting clients with developmental disabilities. In this hands-on role, you will create a positive learning environment, implement individual care plans, and teach skills for daily living and community integration.
What You'll Do
- Create a nurturing, positive learning environment and develop strategies to help clients cope effectively with social, emotional, and physical situations.
- Implement Individual Plans of Care, recording data on teaching strategies, behavior plans, and client progress.
- Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes daily and report changes to supervisory staff.
- Once Medication Certified, administer medication at prescribed times in accordance with agency and DDS standards.
- Assist in making medical appointments and monitor follow-through on doctors’ orders.
- Participate in planning, purchasing, and preparing meals within budgetary resources while following dietary plans.
- Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and upkeep of the residence, property, and vehicle.
- Facilitate community-based outings, ensuring all health and safety measures are followed.
- Provide accurate accounting of agency petty cash and client funds.
- Assure individuals’ right to privacy and adhere to confidentiality policies.
- Participate in required training, staff meetings, and conferences.
- Assist in developing positive neighborhood and community relationships.
What We're Looking For
- Must be able to lift and transfer 70-75lbs.
- Must be able to perform active work both inside and outside of the home.
- Must be able to utilize approved protective hold techniques.
- Must possess a valid CT driver's license and have a good driving record.
- Must have reliable transportation; may be required to utilize a personal vehicle to transport clients.
- Demonstrate organizational ability and experience communicating effectively with persons with developmental disabilities.
- Be able to communicate with people at various ability levels.
- Possess organizational abilities to implement programs and services.
- Possess self-motivation.
- Display patience, an encouraging attitude, optimism, energy, communication skills, and a nurturing temperament.
Nice to Have
- A high school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in Human Services.
- A Bachelor's degree in a related Human Services area in addition to experience.
- Demonstrate some knowledge of educational and behavioral programs.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn about current issues in developmental disabilities.
- Be interested in improving quality of life, household management, and teaching.
Team & Environment
This role sits within the Adult Services department and reports to a Residential Manager and Residential Assistant Manager.
Work Mode
This position requires full-time onsite presence at the residential facility.
