Texas A&M University - Kingsville’s Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute is hiring a Research Technician I to provide entry-level technical support for research work. You will assist the Feline Research Program with multiple projects involving wild cats and other wildlife in South Texas, supporting the research activities of students and staff.
What You'll Do
- Collect samples and measurement data from experiments.
- Implement and maintain data collection and summarization for field trials.
- Collect and compile data, compute quantitations, and extend projections.
- Assemble and operate technical equipment.
- Assist senior staff in conducting major field experiments and consult on developing procedures.
- Conduct and assist with carnivore captures and sedations for species including ocelots, bobcats, and skunks.
- Assist with non-invasive surveys such as scat collection and remote camera trap monitoring.
- Establish new remote camera stations.
- Assist with VHF and GPS telemetry and remote sensing efforts.
- Assist with writing and editing reports, articles, scientific posters, and oral presentations.
- Perform data entry and maintain pre-existing databases.
- Assist with other aspects of project activities as needed.
- Work some weekends.
What We're Looking For
- A high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
- Ability to exert heavy force.
- Ability to work beyond normal business hours and/or on weekends, not to exceed 40 hours in a week.
Team & Environment
You will assist the Feline Research Program and support research duties conducted by undergraduate and graduate students and staff, reporting to a Project Supervisor.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position located in Kingsville, Texas.
