Mass General Brigham is seeking a motivated Research Lab Tech I to join the Margeta laboratory. You’ll contribute to research investigating how neuroinflammation contributes to glaucoma pathogenesis. This position offers robust training for those considering graduate, medical, or MD-PhD programs.
What You'll Do
- Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols.
- Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and safety.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Conduct experiments involving retinal and optic nerve tissue, including processing, sectioning, and histological analysis.
- Perform immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and microscopy to assess cell populations like microglia and macrophages.
- Support in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo studies, including animal handling and sample collection (with training provided).
- Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures and results.
- Compile, analyze, and interpret data using statistical and analytical methods.
- Analyze and quantify imaging or molecular data using Fiji (ImageJ).
- Assist with general laboratory maintenance, including reagent preparation, inventory management, and equipment upkeep.
- Collaborate closely with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and other lab members on team-based projects.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, physical sciences, or a related field prior to the start date.
- Prior research experience is required.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks effectively, and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and willingness to learn new techniques.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and openness to feedback.
- A genuine interest in neuroscience, immunology, or vision research.
Nice to Have
- 1-2 years of prior laboratory experience through academic coursework, internships, or employment.
Technical Stack
- Fiji (ImageJ) for data analysis and quantification.
