The University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a Research Assistant to join the Okanagan Stroke Research Lab at the Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management. You will undertake a variety of research-related activities, coordinating and assisting in the POWER study and other health projects. Your work will include training participants, creating exercise prescriptions, and performing general research tasks.
What You'll Do
- Supervise participants during exercise sessions for the Power Exercise for Stroke Recovery (POWER) Pilot Trial.
- Create exercise prescriptions, setting workloads and making disability-specific adaptations.
- Oversee exercise sessions and follow up with participants via telephone regarding missed sessions and scheduling.
- Perform data entry for all exercise training logs.
- Recruit, interview, and assess patients participating in rehabilitation studies.
- Perform literature searches, data extraction, and database maintenance.
- Develop media and materials to disseminate research to clinicians (knowledge translation).
- Actively participate in research team meetings to define and plan participant recruitment strategies, protocols, and goals.
- Support the work of research trainees.
- Support the general administration of the lab, including preparation and submission of publications and grants, scheduling meetings and research activities, and organizing meetings and travel.
- Analyze and synthesize research data and use this information to write reports and contribute to grant applications.

- High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice to Have
- An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or graduation from a technical college or institute. A university or college degree in rehabilitation, disability, or another healthcare discipline.
- Previous relevant training in research data gathering and analysis in university and healthcare settings and experience in drafting reports and other research documents.
- Experience with seniors and those with chronic conditions, and the ability to work with older adults with disability.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work alone and as a member of a team.
- Excellent organizational and writing skills, as well as being self-directed.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
Team & Environment
This position will work at the Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management and reports to Dr. Brodie Sakakibara and research trainees.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $27.00 - $30.96 CAD per hour.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position.
