Puget Sound Energy is looking for a Regulatory Policy Consultant to join our team. In this role, you’ll provide strategic guidance and analysis on federal regulatory, transmission, and market policy. You’ll oversee research, planning, and implementation of federal filings and compliance programs, while participating in regional forums to influence policy and help PSE achieve its energy and transmission objectives.
What You'll Do
- Attend regional energy and market policy meetings where PSE has a vested interest, represent those interests, and influence outcomes.
- Develop alternatives on policy issues, present them to PSE executives, and negotiate towards desired results with various regional entities.
- Monitor state and federal energy, market, policy, and reliability initiatives affecting the company’s energy supply and transmission needs.
- Coordinate with compliance personnel to ensure PSE develops and meets compliance standards and timelines.
- Coordinate across business functions with PSE analysts to assess the impact of various energy and market policy proposals.
- Prepare regular reports for staff and management on current energy and market policy issues.
- Work cooperatively across the organization to communicate pending regulatory proposals and align them with company objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in business, public policy, finance, economics, communications, or an applicable field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8 years’ experience including 3 years in regulatory compliance and 5 years of regulatory policy development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong negotiating, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Must be self-directed and willing to mentor peers and team members.
- Thorough understanding of utility operations, policy issues, and regulation.
- Thorough understanding of federal, regional, and state rules and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access or other database applications.
Nice to Have
- CPA, MBA, JD, PE, or experience in public policy.
- Thorough understanding of compliance regulations and processes specific to the department/area of hire.
