Voltus is seeking a Regulatory Compliance Counsel (FERC) to provide expert legal and strategic guidance on federal energy regulations. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our operations are compliant with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) rules, directly impacting our mission to deliver distributed energy resources.
What You'll Do
- Provide legal analysis and counsel on FERC, NERC, and wholesale market regulations
- Monitor, interpret, and advise on the impact of new and existing regulatory developments
- Develop and implement compliance programs, policies, and training materials
- Manage regulatory filings, respond to data requests, and represent the company in regulatory proceedings
- Advise internal teams on regulatory requirements for product development and market operations
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
- 4+ years of direct experience practicing energy regulatory law, with a focus on FERC and NERC compliance
- Proven track record of interpreting and applying complex federal energy regulations
- Strong analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively with non-legal stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Experience with demand response, distributed energy resources, or competitive electricity markets
- Background working with or for a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) or Independent System Operator (ISO)
- Prior in-house counsel experience at a technology or energy company
