VCA Animal Hospitals is looking for a Regional Medical Director to lead our South Atlantic Group. You will drive excellence in hospital operations and medical care, setting standards for clinical practices and ensuring exceptional patient care while supporting veterinarians through coaching and mentorship.
What You'll Do
- Cultivate current veterinary medical thinking and best practices in patient care across medical teams in the region.
- Ensure clients receive high-quality medical care for their pets at all hospitals within the region.
- Spend time in each hospital to observe medical activities and coach medical teams individually and in groups.
- Use reports, medical records, and observation to review and improve diagnostic and treatment skills of doctors.
- Evaluate medical equipment and take steps to maximize its appropriate usage.
- Manage veterinary board and client complaints that are medically based from notification through resolution.
- Mentor Medical Directors and Associates on improved time management, efficiency, and proper use of Technicians and technology.
- Motivate Medical Directors to maintain an 'owner mentality' and ensure Associate Veterinarians practice VCA standards of medicine.
- Host or present local medical seminars, which can include invitations to non-VCA veterinarians.
- Connect with and support Medical Directors and Associate Veterinarians to cultivate job satisfaction and well-being.
What We're Looking For
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent from an accredited university.
- A minimum of 5 years practice experience.
- License To Practice Veterinary Medicine (must be able to obtain a veterinary license in all supported states: NC, SC, GA, FL).
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with Medical Directors and Associate Veterinarians for each hospital.
- Ability to follow through on implementation and promotion of medical programs instituted by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Ability to deliver, with the Regional Operations Director, the evaluation of the Medical Director’s performance and set medical goals.

Key member of a collaborative leadership team partnering with Group Vice President, Regional Operations Directors, and Regional Technician Director. You will report to the Chief Medical Officer.
