Chesterfield County Public Schools is looking for a Reading Specialist to join our team of top-notch educators. This is a 0.5 FTE position where you will split your time equally between Weaver ES and Deep Creek ES for the 2026-2027 school year. Your core mission will be to plan, assess, and deliver supplemental literacy instruction based on division standards.
What You'll Do
- Administer diagnostic literacy assessments to identify student reading deficiencies.
- Coordinate and oversee evidence-based supplemental instruction and intervention for students who do not meet literacy benchmarks.
- Support English teachers in analyzing student results from approved literacy screeners and using data to plan instruction.
- Oversee literacy screener assessments and documentation procedures as prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education and Chesterfield County Public Schools.
- Develop and monitor student progress on individual reading plans.
- Collaborate with administration and staff to plan for the instructional needs of all students.
- Participate in ordering and disseminating supplemental and intervention materials.
- Model instructional strategies and best practices for teachers in scientifically based reading research.
- Coordinate tutorial services.
- Plan and implement motivational programs to promote reading.
- Coordinate and assist in delivering informational programs on reading and writing for parents.
- Attend regular Reading Specialist meetings and state-level trainings, then disseminate information and strategies to staff.
- Prepare periodic reports regarding Gifted Education programs and services as applicable.
- Prepare progress monitoring reports for both the school division and the state as applicable.
What We're Looking For
- Eligibility for a Virginia teaching license with a Reading Specialist endorsement.
- Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of instruction.
- General knowledge of the academic curriculum for assigned classes.
- Ability to develop instructional goals, design and deliver instruction, and assess student learning.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
- Must successfully complete required background investigations and tests.

- Compensation range: $55,046.62 - $83,594.34.
