About the Role

Hitachi Rail is looking for a Project RAMS Manager to coordinate project Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) activities, ensuring our solutions are safe for their intended scope and purpose. You will be responsible for demonstrating compliance with relevant processes, policies, legislation, standards, and regulations.

What You'll Do

  • Represent RAMS in project meetings for your assigned scope and act as the primary RAMS interface to other disciplines.
  • Be responsible for the on-time, on-budget delivery of all RAMS work packages assigned locally.
  • Participate in project/product roadmap reviews, negotiating RAMS delivery milestones with dependencies and resource constraints in mind.
  • Prepare RAM & Safety Plans and Safety Cases to demonstrate solutions are safe for their intended purpose.
  • Define, identify, and lead the local project RAMS team to implement the RAMS strategy.
  • Ensure all delivered solutions meet both company and contractual Safety & RAM requirements.
  • Ensure execution of assigned project RAMS activities through schedule, critical path management, and risk/opportunity management.
  • Enforce company RAMS processes and guarantee adherence to project RAMS plans.
  • Prepare statement of work (SoW) for ISA and ISwA involvement when required.
  • Interface with ISA, ISwA, customers, and approval authorities, involve RAMS experts as needed, and define follow-up action plans.
  • Anticipate and escalate technical and/or resource issues on projects.
  • Prepare and present the Project RAMS Management Dashboard to management regularly, monitor technical safety KPIs, and proactively manage action closure.
  • Analyze EAC/ETC/Actuals regularly, record unplanned/out-of-scope activities, and manage team workload demand.
  • Support capitalization activities and Lessons Learned for the project and department.

What We're Looking For

  • A B.Sc. in Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent, or a Business degree with demonstrated experience in a technical area.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior technical role in train control systems or automation (aerospace, defense, automotive, medical, or nuclear).
  • Good understanding of systems engineering, software engineering, and functional safety.
  • Detailed knowledge of the system safety lifecycle, safety design concepts, and risk analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with: System Safety, Validation, Safety Planning, Safety Approval and Certification, RAMT Engineering, Software Safety Assessment, Hazard Management, and Safety Case development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate technical staff.
  • Strong skills in MS Office and project management tools & software.
  • Good technical writing skills, excellent communication and analytical skills; excellent command of English and the local language.

Nice to Have

  • An M.Sc. in Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of railway signaling systems, train control systems, fixed and moving block signaling principles, relay-based and/or computer-based interlocking design.
  • Extensive experience with safety standards (CENELEC, IEC, IEEE, MIL), best practices, and safety methods/techniques like HAZID, HAZOP, PHA, SHA, OSHA, FTA, FMEA/FMECA, and FSA.
  • Working knowledge of Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) and/or Solid-State Interlocking (SSI).

Team & Environment

You will coordinate with the SRS Business Segment RAMS team and lead the local project RAMS team.

This is an onsite position based in Cairo, Egypt.
