The City of Ottawa is seeking a Project Officer to manage the full lifecycle acquisition of the municipal fleet. In this role, you will be responsible for executing acquisition plans, developing commissioning strategies, and providing technical expertise to ensure the City's vehicles and equipment support daily public service operations.
What You'll Do
- Execute the lifecycle acquisition plan for vehicles and equipment required by City departments.
- Develop system commissioning plans and provide support for vehicle and equipment tracking.
- Deliver technical expertise and services related to the City's fleet.
- Coordinate post-acquisition support services with equipment maintenance and parts support vendors and training leads.
- Conduct technical and lifecycle investigations as needed.
- Ensure new equipment integrates into service smoothly and without delay.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree with specialization in engineering (preferably mechanical) or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in maintenance activities for a large vehicle fleet.
- Experience in procurement and evaluation of municipal equipment and vehicles regarding use and performance capabilities.
- Experience analyzing vehicle/equipment cost reports and evaluating alternatives.
- Knowledge of automotive technology, technical specifications, and performance of a wide range of vehicles and complex technical equipment.
- Knowledge of Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, National Safety Mark, and Ontario Highway Traffic Act and regulations.
- Knowledge of lifecycle investigations, failure analysis, and anti-pollution devices.
- Knowledge of management software and information systems, Fleet Management Information System (FMIS), project management, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively, with strong organizational skills to handle multiple projects and tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to write complex technical specifications, manage projects, and build consensus.
- Computer proficiency with MS Office suite, fleet information systems, and MS Project.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and report writing skills.
- Knowledge of spoken, read, and written English.
- Possession of a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points.
Nice to Have
- Supervisory experience related to planning and managing fleet maintenance.
- Professional certification in fleet management from NAFA, APWA, or CILTNA.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary: $85,947.68 - $104,577.20 per year (2025 pay rate)
