Role Overview
This position leads the engineering design for substation projects of moderate complexity, with a focus on brownfield upgrades and retrofits. As the technical authority, you will oversee design execution, ensure adherence to safety and quality standards, and support project delivery from concept through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply established engineering methods to develop and review substation designs, ensuring alignment with customer specifications, cost targets, and contractual obligations
- Lead the creation of Single Line Diagrams for both main and protection systems, including selection of appropriate equipment and protection schemes
- Perform critical design calculations such as short circuit forces, cable sizing, earthing systems, illumination, and relay settings
- Develop detailed layout plans, including earth mat configurations, cable routing, and equipment grounding
- Prepare accurate Bills of Quantities for busbars, cables, connectors, and associated hardware
- Review technical specifications for primary and secondary equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, control panels, and protection relays
- Support tender activities by providing engineering inputs, material estimates, and technical evaluations of project requirements
- Collaborate with supply chain teams to ensure technical requirements are clearly communicated to suppliers
- Supervise and delegate tasks to junior engineers, technicians, and support staff
- Identify and manage project risks and opportunities, escalating issues with actionable recommendations
- Ensure all engineering work complies with safety regulations and company integrity standards
- Use AutoCAD, CDEGS, and Microsoft Office tools to produce and validate engineering deliverables
- Communicate effectively in written and spoken English across global teams
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required, along with 6–8 years of hands-on experience in substation design. Proficiency in engineering software and a strong understanding of electrical systems design principles are essential.
