The City of New York's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) seeks a Project Engineer (Assistant Civil Engineer) to join its Design & Construction unit. You will support the development of Street Improvement Projects that improve safety and accessibility for all New Yorkers, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with internal units to address identified safety concerns.
- Prepare drawings and details using AutoCAD.
- Perform street design work of moderate difficulty and responsibility.
- Assist with research, investigations, or studies related to street design functions.
- Participate in meetings and conduct other related duties.
- Perform field work to determine conditions and design constructability.
What We're Looking For
- Must be serving permanently in the civil service title of Assistant Civil Engineer, or reachable on the list.
- A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory civil engineering experience.
- OR a baccalaureate degree and a Master's degree in civil engineering.
Nice to Have
- A New York State driver’s license maintained throughout employment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, GUIDESign, AutoTurn, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD, NYC Street Design Manual, and NACTO publications.
- Excellent writing and oral skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively, pursue professional development, use state-of-the-practice technology, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Team & Environment
You will work under the guidance of senior staff within the Design & Construction (D&C) unit of the Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) division.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary Range: USD66,330 - USD99,528.
- Less than 2 years of City Service - New Hire Rate: $66,330.
- 2 or more years of City service - Minimum Incumbent Rate: $76,279.
Work Mode
This is a hybrid role, eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week under the Remote Work Pilot Program. Primary office location is 33-00 Northern Blvd. LIC, NY.
