About the Role

Family Health International (FHI 360) seeks a Program Director, Workforce to provide strategic leadership for a significant portfolio of workforce development initiatives. In this role, you will be accountable for the quality, operational success, and financial health of corporate-funded, Department of Labor, and Department of Justice projects, positioning FHI 360 as a thought leader for underinvested communities.

What You'll Do

  • Account for the overall quality and operational and financial success of projects in the workforce portfolio, overseeing management functions like staffing, scopes of work, timelines, budgets, and compliance.
  • Provide leadership and technical direction to existing and new workforce projects, ensuring coherent direction, compliance, timely deliverables, and managed growth.
  • Identify areas for improved efficiency and develop process improvement initiatives, including staff training.
  • Grow funding, relationships, and partnerships to increase the workforce portfolio in areas like career and technical education, apprenticeship, and justice workforce programming.
  • Utilize project management tools, such as Jira and Salesforce, to capture and share information across teams.
  • Identify workforce development trends to position FHI 360 for investments from federal, state, tribal, local, corporate, and foundation sources.
  • Coordinate with leadership on management, compliance, performance standards, and systems for budget and knowledge management.
  • Ensure project teams collect, document, and disseminate lessons learned and best practices for incorporation into new designs.
  • Forge and maintain solid cooperation with partner organizations through regular communication and joint decision-making.
  • Lead workforce development thought leadership events and the development of external publications and white papers.
  • Lead project implementation to meet quality and communications expectations and project goals.
  • Ensure technical deliverables are consistent with best practices and meet contractual obligations.
  • Provide strategic leadership and technical direction within the workforce development portfolio, including knowledge of key strategies like apprenticeships and credentialing.
  • Guide the development and refinement of frameworks, tools, resources, monitoring approaches, and advocacy actions.
  • Start new workforce projects and train staff on program design and implementation.
  • Recommend solutions to management on strategy, operational, and business decisions.
  • Develop a sound understanding of the portfolio to professionally represent FHI 360 to partners and government.
  • Create a supervisory environment focused on achievement, learning, productivity, accountability, and openness.
  • Facilitate performance management and professional development of direct reports through feedback, coaching, and learning opportunities.
  • Create a climate in which people want to do their best.
  • Lead business development efforts to maintain and grow the workforce development portfolio.
  • Lead proposal design and development efforts for sustainable growth, proactively identifying new programming opportunities.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with funders, partners, and across FHI 360 staff.
  • Support leadership and staff in the coordination, management, and implementation of projects.
  • Maintain strong working relationships and consistent communication in a matrixed project environment.
  • Partner with organizational leads to identify collaboration opportunities and integrate resources into programming.
  • Increase the visibility of projects within FHI 360 and among external stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, problem-solving, respect, openness, and learning.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, the Environment, Gender, Health, Nutrition, Public Affairs / Policy Studies, Research, Technology, Youth Development, or a Related Field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience required.
  • 8 years of demonstrated department-level leadership, strong business acumen, or supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in a non-governmental organization (NGO) and in an intermediary function.
  • Knowledge of building the capacity of organizations.
  • Proven ability to manage effective teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing and implementing US workforce development projects including design, management and implementation.
  • Knowledge of business development processes for government, foundations, and the private sector.

Nice to Have

  • 15+ years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals involved with the justice system or other underrepresented groups a plus.

Team & Environment

You will oversee a team of 8-10 staff and report to NIWL’s Director of Learning & Workforce Development.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation: USD 120,000 - 160,000 annually.
  • FHI 360 contributes 7% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account.
  • 18 days of paid vacation per year for full-time staff.
  • 12 sick days per year for full-time staff.
  • 11 holidays per year for full-time staff.

Work Mode

This is a global role requiring the candidate to be US Based.
