Hertz Project Unit is hiring a Principal Solutions Architect to define and drive the future-state architecture for our global counter and rental systems. You will be accountable for designing cloud-based, distributed, transaction-heavy architectures that support multi-brand, multi-country, and franchise operations. This highly hands-on role requires close partnership with business, product, engineering, operations, and enterprise architecture teams to transform how we build and modernize rental execution platforms.
What You'll Do
- Design, modernize, and refactor global counter and rental systems using modular, cloud-native, API-driven architectures.
- Own solution architecture across all domains including application, data, integration, networking, security, and resiliency.
- Define and maintain solution blueprints, reference architectures, and standards for counter and rental platforms.
- Establish a clear end-state architecture for areas of responsibility and drive stakeholder alignment and buy-in.
- Ensure architectures can be delivered incrementally, on time and within budget, without compromising the long-term target state.
- Lead architectural design and review for initiatives spanning counter and agent workflows, offline/degraded-mode operations, multi-brand and franchise configurations, and country-specific regulatory requirements.
- Work hands-on with engineering teams across the full SDLC, including design sessions, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
- Partner closely with Enterprise Architecture to align with broader platform and integration strategies.
- Define API, integration, and event models connecting counter systems with reservations, fleet, payments, identity, pricing, and customer platforms.
- Drive modernization using incremental transformation patterns like strangler, abstraction, and coexistence.
- Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, performance, and availability standards.
- Participate in the design and planning of enhancements to existing platforms and development of new capabilities.
- Advise business and technology stakeholders on architectural tradeoffs and recommendations.
- Interpret and refine business requirements using workshops, design sessions, prototyping, and modeling.
- Understand and document system dependencies, integration points, and data flows across the rental ecosystem.
- Create and maintain architecture documentation including solution designs, technical specifications, and release artifacts.
- Collaborate with Operations leaders, Program Directors, and Vendors to solve complex cross-functional challenges.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in information technology.
- 5+ years in a Solution Architect or Systems Architect role supporting large-scale enterprise platforms.
- Proven experience across full project lifecycles including requirements definition, architecture and solution design, prototyping, implementation, and rollout.
- Strong experience with cloud-native application architectures (microservices, event-driven systems, serverless).
- Extensive experience designing and implementing API-based integrations using REST and SOAP, with JSON and XML.
- Experience with transactional, high-availability systems (retail, travel, hospitality, or mobility preferred).
- Experience designing for offline-first or degraded-mode scenarios.
- Strong understanding of system integrations using APIs, messaging, batch, and streaming patterns.
- Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments.
- Hands-on familiarity with modern web and data technologies (SQL, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, JSON).
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and influence stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree preferred or equivalent practical experience.
- Familiarity with counter, POS, or agent-assisted systems is highly desirable.
Technical Stack
- Architectures: Cloud-native, microservices, event-driven systems, serverless
- APIs & Formats: REST, SOAP, JSON, XML
