Roche is seeking a Principal Scientific Software Engineer to join Genentech in South San Francisco, CA. You will design and develop computational solutions for research projects and maintain a cloud-based genomic analysis system for the organization.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop computational solutions from scientists in research projects.
- Develop and optimize genomics workflows for variant calling, alignment, and transcriptomic analysis.
- Design, develop, and maintain a cloud-based genomic analysis system for the organization.
- Implement and debug genomics workflows in bioinformatics software languages such as Nextflow and Workflow Definition Language.
- Design and develop highly scalable distributed computer infrastructure optimized for bioinformatics workflows and analysis on the cloud.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to provide integrated genomics research solutions.
- Apply a deep understanding of genomics data to manage data according to FAIR principles to ensure data quality and discovery.
- Implement best practices to ensure high code quality in the systems designed and developed.
What We're Looking For
- A PhD, or foreign equivalent, in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field and 2 years of experience as a bioinformatics software engineer or related position in bioinformatics.
- OR a Master's degree or foreign equivalent, in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience as a bioinformatics software engineer or related position in bioinformatics.
- 1 year of experience must include: Bioinformatics Analysis.
- 1 year of experience must include: Design and development of distributed genomics analysis systems.
- 1 year of experience must include: Genomics data engineering.
- 1 year of experience must include: Bioinformatics software cloud engineering.
- 1 year of experience must include: Experience working in a drug or clinical research development environment.
- 1 year of experience must include: Experience working in a scientific research multi-disciplinary environment.

- Annual compensation range: $220,680 to $302,000 per year.
