Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, is hiring a Principal Research Scientist to lead solid form development, enabling robust manufacturing for synthetic drug substances. You will develop computational tools to de-risk the solid form landscape and utilize advanced characterization to establish structure-property-performance relationships.
What You'll Do
- Lead identification and development of solid forms of synthetic drug substances to support assets through all development phases.
- Develop and implement state-of-the-art computational tools to map and de-risk the solid form landscape.
- Establish and utilize a diverse array of solid state and materials science characterization techniques, incorporating automation and modeling.
- Collaboratively develop manufacturing processes in the lab and demonstrate them in the pilot plant for clinical supplies.
- Set project strategies, define responsibilities and timelines, and provide leadership in a matrixed team setting.
- Supervise and mentor junior scientists and interns, fostering technical and professional growth.
- Publish research findings and represent the organization as a thought leader at scientific conferences.
What We're Looking For
- Principal Research Scientist I: Bachelor’s Degree with 14+ years of experience; master’s degree with 12+ years; PhD with 6+ years.
- Principal Research Scientist II: Bachelor’s Degree with 16+ years of experience; master’s degree with 14+ years; PhD with 8+ years.
- Strong knowledge of solid form development, design and control of unit operations, and expertise in analytical tools demonstrated through multiple projects.
- Strong understanding of biopharmaceutical concepts to improve drug-ability through salts and cocrystals, and knowledge of polymorphism, materials properties, and analytical tools (PXRD, thermal techniques, microscopy, particle size analysis, HPLC).
- Proven competence in representing the department within cross-functional project teams and expertise centers.
- Demonstrated creative thinking to address complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong record of independently leading research to achieve organizational goals and leveraging external innovations.
- Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated record of building lasting partnerships across organizational boundaries.
Nice to Have
- Preferred educational background includes Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering.
- Experience in the CMC development of oral peptide is highly desirable.
- Experience in solid-form screening, physical properties characterization, and crystallization development of oral peptide, nucleic acid, and therapeutic protein.
