AEMO is hiring a Principal Engineering Technical Lead to lead our Data Request function under NER 3.13.3, delivering high-quality power system models. You will own the Model Issues Reporting Page (MIRP), test and integrate dynamic models for new connections into AEMO’s Modelling Platform (AMP), and support the assessment of model standards and new tools. Our purpose is to ensure safe, reliable, and affordable energy today and enable the energy transition for all Australians.
What You'll Do
- Provide expert technical advice on power system model management and development to support planning, connections, operations, and real-time applications.
- Provide expert technical input and detailed specialised knowledge to relevant internal and external working groups, consultations, and projects.
- Manage small to medium-sized projects autonomously, mentoring and supporting technical team members.
- Support uplift of power system modelling capability across the business, including effective use of modelling tools, management of model quality, and evolution of modelling tools and processes.
- Maintain, update, and revise internal documentation and procedures.
What We're Looking For
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (preferably in Electrical Engineering with a power system focus) or equivalent relevant discipline or work experience.
- Extensive knowledge of modern power system theory and key challenges, power system modelling, and power system analysis techniques.
- Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, specifically relating to electricity transmission and generation.
- Extensive experience in using power systems simulation applications such as PSCAD and PSS/E for power system modelling and analysis purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a team of professional engineers or equivalent over a wide range of planning and operational issues, including management of timelines, resources, risks, and forward mitigation measures.
Nice to Have
- Proficiency in the use of programming languages and software packages to analyse data, including Python.
- Demonstrated experience in using Mudpack and SSAT as well as other analytical software such as MATLAB.
