Transport for London (TfL) is looking for a Power Substation Fitter Apprentice to join a three-year development program. You will train to become a specialist in HV Distribution Maintenance for London Underground's private power network, gaining hands-on experience with the electrical infrastructure that keeps the capital moving.
What You'll Do
- Complete a structured three-year development program with placements across multiple HV Power departments.
- Participate in planning and delivering preventative and reactive maintenance on HV/LV/DC circuit breakers, transformers, frequency changers, batteries, chargers, and control & protection systems.
- Respond dynamically to faults on critical power assets.
- Study for and complete a remote City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering on day release.
- Shadow experienced Power engineers across specialities including Operating, Planning, HV Cables, Plant Maintenance, Plant Breakdown, OLBI, SCADA and Protection.
- Develop proficiency in using mechanical hand tools and electrical test equipment.
- Complete logbooks on 40 chosen tasks or topics.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of 3 GCSE’s Grade 4 or above including Maths, English Language and Physics (or Science if combined).
- You must be 18 years old by 7th September 2026.
- You must not currently hold or be undertaking the same Apprenticeship Standard.
- You must not hold a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Engineering, a Level 4 NVQ Certificate/Diploma in any Engineering discipline, or a Level 3 Knowledge qualification in Rail Engineering.
Nice to Have
- Possessing a Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) would be advantageous for pursuing further higher-level qualifications after the apprenticeship.
Team & Environment
You will complete placements across various HV Power departments including Operating, Planning, HV Cables, Plant Maintenance, Plant Breakdown, OLBI, SCADA and Protection.
