About the Role
This position involves analyzing power market behavior, interpreting complex data sets, and delivering actionable insights to support trading, procurement, and strategic planning within the energy sector.
Responsibilities
- Analyze power market data to identify pricing trends and volatility patterns
- Monitor real-time electricity markets across multiple regional transmission organizations
- Evaluate supply-demand imbalances affecting power availability and cost
- Produce daily and weekly market summaries for internal stakeholders
- Assess impact of weather, fuel prices, and grid conditions on power markets
- Support trading desk with short-term price forecasting and risk assessment
- Develop models to project power demand under varying operational scenarios
- Track regulatory changes affecting power generation and transmission
- Collaborate with operations teams to align procurement with market conditions
- Maintain databases of historical power prices and market fundamentals
- Generate reports on transmission constraints and congestion pricing
- Evaluate renewable energy integration effects on wholesale markets
- Provide analysis for bilateral power contract negotiations
- Monitor natural gas-electricity price correlations
- Assist in developing hedging strategies for power portfolios
- Contribute to scenario planning for extreme market events
- Validate third-party market data for accuracy and consistency
- Present findings to trading and management teams
- Stay current with FERC and NERC regulatory developments
- Use analytical tools to visualize market trends and anomalies
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in energy economics or related discipline
- Direct experience in power trading or risk management
- Knowledge of power derivatives and futures markets
- Experience with Python, R, or SQL for data analysis
- Familiarity with SCADA and grid monitoring systems
- Understanding of renewable portfolio standards and carbon policies
