About the Role

UMass Memorial Health is looking for a Police Dispatcher to join our team on a 40-hour, evening schedule. In this role, you will ensure the safety and security of our facilities and community by managing critical emergency communications systems.

What You'll Do

  • Operate a two-way communications system to monitor, receive, relay, and record police alarms and emergency calls.
  • Utilize closed circuit television monitors and dispatch center equipment to monitor safety conditions.
  • Identify unauthorized activity or problematic situations and dispatch appropriate police officers to investigate.
  • Monitor fire, public safety alarms, and card access systems, dispatching personnel as necessary.
  • Operate a two-way radio system to dispatch officers to calls within their coverage area.
  • Initiate emergency calls and utilize the paging system as required.
  • Report questionable conditions to a supervisor or Police Sergeant.

What We're Looking For

  • A High School diploma.
  • Ability to operate personal computers, report terminals, and computer-based equipment.
  • Basic proficiency with word processing programs.
  • Excellent telephone communication and customer relation skills.
  • Flexibility to be temporarily re-assigned to any site within our system.
  • A high degree of accuracy and alertness in dispatching personnel.
  • The ability to maintain a calm demeanor and composure in crisis situations.
  • Must successfully undergo both a Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and an FBI criminal fingerprint-based background check.

Nice to Have

  • 6-12 months of related office, clerical, or administrative support experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of paid or verifiable volunteer experience as a dispatcher in police, fire, EMS, or ambulance services involving automated equipment.
