Responsibilities
- Collect specimens following established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screenings, and insurance exams.
- Administer oral solutions as per training guidelines.
- Research test and client information, and verify written and electronic orders using laboratory technology systems or directory of services.
- Complete all data entry tasks accurately, including patient registration, entering test orders from requisitions or databases, and managing standing orders.
- Enter billing information and collect payments when required, ensuring the security of assets and credit card data.
- Process specimens by labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required by test orders.
- Perform clerical duties as assigned, such as data entry, inventory management, stocking supplies, and answering phones.
- Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures, including procedure manuals, safety manuals, compliance manuals, automobile policies, employee handbook, and quality assurance manuals, and ensure staff follow instructions.
- Verify patient demographic information and obtain patient signature after venipuncture to confirm tubes were labeled in their presence and that the name on the label is correct.
- Assist with compiling and submitting monthly statistics and data.
- Maintain phlebotomy logs in a timely manner, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs, based on required frequency.
- Complete training courses and stay current with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
- Travel to Territory Manager meetings if held off-site or outside normal shift hours.
- Participate in special projects and teams.
- Stay updated on company communications and assist with distributing technical information to the work group.
- Perform Point of Care (POC) testing where needed and complete training and competency evaluations per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
- Act as a mentor and resource for new employees, helping them transition into the patient service center environment and become familiar with established procedures.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages and problems to the group leader or supervisor as they occur.
- Help prepare schedules for the assigned work group or patient service centers.
- Communicate professionally with clients to resolve or refer problems, document issues, and report critical incidents as they occur.
- Ensure staff follow safety precautions by wearing a clean, buttoned lab coat, gloves, and face shield when required.
- Assist supervisors with implementing SOPs for phlebotomy services in accordance with company guidelines.
- Ensure facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair, and take appropriate action to advise the group leader or supervisor of needed repairs and maintenance.
- Act as a coach, mentor, instructor, and resource advisor for new employees, and serve as the point of contact for on-site staff, providing regular input to the group lead or supervisor.
