Fresenius Kidney Care is looking for a 3rd year Pharmacy Intern to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional pharmacy practice. Under the direct supervision of a licensed preceptor, you will follow a comprehensive training roadmap to develop core competencies and gain exposure to store, district, and regional operations.
What You'll Do
- Complete a structured training roadmap with Key Learning Experiences (KLEs) to build aptitude for a future Pharmacist role.
- Assist the pharmacy team in ensuring smooth, safe, and accurate prescription fulfillment across all workflow stations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication as an integrated member of the pharmacy team.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by demonstrating empathy and genuine care to create personalized moments.
- Offer patient counseling, field medical questions, and solicit patient medical history under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify details as permitted by state regulation.
- Perform basic inventory activities as directed, such as receiving deliveries and completing cycle counts.
- Deliver additional patient health care services like immunizations and point-of-care testing where allowable by law and upon completion of required training.
- Support immunization services by obtaining Technician Immunizer licensure/training, educating patients, monitoring for reactions, and tracking patient information.
- Contribute to a high-performing team by embracing a growth mindset and being receptive to feedback.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including traveling to other stores in the market as required.
- Understand and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, professional standards, and company policies.
What We're Looking For
- Acceptance into, or active enrollment in, an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Possession of, or active progress toward obtaining, valid pharmacy intern and/or technician licensure as required.
- Commitment to regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete all required training within designated timeframes.
- Strong attention and focus: the ability to concentrate on a task over time and pivot quickly between different tasks.
- A customer service and team orientation: actively looking for ways to help people in a friendly manner.
- Effective verbal, written, and active listening communication skills to interact with patients and colleagues.
- Mathematical reasoning skills to solve problems such as determining a medication's day's supply.
- Problem resolution skills to identify challenging interactions and determine the appropriate course of action.
- Ability to meet physical demands: remain mobile and upright for extended periods; lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead; perform repetitive finger work; and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
Nice to Have
- 1+ years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability and willingness to become immunization certified to provide patient immunizations.
- Flexibility to work in your home store and across other market locations to meet business needs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Team & Environment
You will work under the direction of a preceptor and collaborate closely with the broader pharmacy team to support daily operations and patient care.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $18.50 - $20.25 per hour.
Work Mode
This position is onsite and requires working at designated pharmacy locations.
