The Physician Coder processes and abstracts physician services conducted in hospital environments according to established healthcare guidelines and regulatory directives. Ensures data integrity through periodic quality assessments. Performs statistical data entry into specialized databases. Collaborates with Medical Records, Finance, and Physician Billing departments to facilitate seamless information exchange. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Codes and abstracts professional hospital fee services performed by physicians from medical records using standardized coding systems. Utilizes advanced encoding software for validating relative value units and procedure classifications. Maintains a 95% coding accuracy rate as measured through quality reviews. Maintains daily productivity as outlined. Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of coding guidelines related to physician services across various medical settings. Performs data entry of abstracted physician information into specialty-specific databases. Conducts educational sessions for medical staff focusing on coding and documentation compliance. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for up to seven hours per day, three-four at a time. Frequent finger and hand usage for typing and data entry. Occasional upper extremity lifting up to ten pounds. Minimal stooping, bending, or overhead reaching. Hearing and visual capabilities necessary for professional communication and documentation. EDUCATION: Professional medical coding certification with comprehensive working knowledge of international classification and procedural coding systems required. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1-3 years experience in procedural coding. Previous experience with computerized patient record systems preferred.
