NFI Group Inc. is looking for a Payroll Specialist to be accountable for the precise and prompt management of full-cycle in-house payroll for both Canadian and US employees. Join a team passionate about creating better products and a better world through the electrification of mass mobility.
What You'll Do
- Process full-cycle weekly and bi-weekly payroll, ensuring deadlines are met and activities comply with ICFR controls, payroll tax regulations, labor laws, and applicable union agreements.
- Enter, update, and validate payroll transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Review payroll information related to new hires, employee status or rate changes, and terminations.
- Maintain proper documentation for payroll inputs and processing activities in accordance with policies and record-keeping requirements.
- Provide backup support to payroll team members to ensure continuity of operations.
- Administer court-ordered payments and garnishments, ensuring accurate calculation, processing, and timely remittance.
- Process payroll deductions and reimbursements for benefit programs and company initiatives, including safety footwear, work clothing, and union-related leaves.
- Oversee deductions such as union dues, charitable contributions, and other voluntary or statutory payroll deductions.
- Reconcile and submit government payroll remittances accurately and on time.
- Support payroll compliance by following established procedures, internal controls, and ICFR requirements.
- Support quarterly and year-end payroll activities, including T4 and W-2 reporting.
- Generate and submit Records of Employment (ROEs) for Canadian employees.
- Provide payroll data to the payroll tax team to support withholding filings and regulatory compliance.
- Prepare regular payroll reports and respond to ad hoc reporting requests.
- Collaborate with HR representatives to ensure payroll data is accurate and submitted within required timelines.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits in a professional and timely manner.
What We're Looking For
- Post-secondary education or relevant experience in Human Resources.
- Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to meet tight deadlines.
Nice to Have
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certification.
- 1-3 years of payroll processing experience.
- Experience with in-house payroll processing.
- Familiarity with US payroll processing across multiple states.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
