Penn State is looking for a Part-time Field Technician to support terrestrial Lidar scanning projects in forest environments. This role involves hands-on data collection and fieldwork in challenging natural settings.
What You'll Do
- Lay out terrestrial Lidar scanning locations using measuring tape, compass, and flags.
- Move and position lightweight reflectance targets during data collection.
- Walk about 40 minutes on a forest route to plots, carrying up to 40 pounds of equipment with or without accommodation.
- Assist with real-world data collection using a high-end laser scanning sensor.
What We're Looking For
- Ability to navigate and measure distances and directions (azimuths) in natural forests.
- Ability to hike off-trail for up to two miles while carrying equipment with or without accommodation.
- Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check.
- Successful completion of University background check(s).
Nice to Have
- At least one year of undergraduate studies in forestry or a related field.
- Ability to work independently in challenging field conditions.
