Dentons is seeking a Paralegal, Litigation for a 15-month contract role within its Legal Resource Services Department. The position provides support to the Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Employment & Labour groups, managing multiple tasks and priorities while working collaboratively.
What You'll Do
- Assist lawyers with all aspects of document management including collection, processing, review for relevance and privilege, and production.
- Use litigation support and e-discovery software (Relativity) to support legal work.
- Prepare document productions and Affidavits of Records.
- Review, summarize, and organize documents for discoveries and trial.
- Prepare chronologies and summaries of key documentary evidence for use in questioning on discovery and trial.
- Effectively manage e-discovery databases and handle electronic evidence.
- Carry out e-discovery project management, coordinating among team members, clients, opposing counsel, and external vendors.
- Prepare for questionings, applications, arbitrations, and trials, including assembling affidavits and court records.
- Draft pleadings, litigation hold documentation, undertaking responses, and bill of costs.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of experience providing support in civil litigation matters.
- 2+ years of experience using e-discovery software with a strong understanding of both the software and litigation processes.
- Strong technical proficiency in using e-discovery software (Relativity preferred) to manage projects adhering to best practices.
- Experience with complex, document-intensive matters.
- Technological proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and time tracking software.
- Practical knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court and key limitation timelines.
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Strong legal analysis and critical thinking skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with lawyers, legal assistants, and paraprofessionals.
- Ability to prioritize a high volume of tasks and competing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
