Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on federal and state statutes, regulations, directives, and judicial decisions.
- Utilize government-provided legal research databases such as LexisNexis, PACER, and state judiciary resources.
- Analyze and summarize case law, research findings, medical records, and factual records.
- Assist attorneys in developing legal opinions, memoranda, and case strategies.
- Investigate facts and gather evidence for legal cases, JAGMAN administrative or criminal investigations, and civilian personnel matters.
- Create, organize, and maintain physical and electronic records for cases, investigations, and other legal matters.
- Track deadlines, statutes of limitations, discovery dates, report dates, filing requirements, and suspense dates.
- Notify government attorneys of pending or upcoming actions.
- Develop and maintain tracking systems and databases for evidence, documents, investigations, administrative law matters, and training records.
- Prepare legal and administrative documents for attorney review and approval, including legal memoranda and advisory opinions, reports of investigation, summary transcripts, pleadings and motions, discovery requests and responses, correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and government agencies, responses to FOIA and Privacy Act requests, and weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
- Assist attorneys with preparation for trials and administrative hearings.
- Organize and maintain exhibits, trial notebooks, hearing notebooks, and witness files.
- Review and summarize transcripts, witness testimony, discovery materials, and other evidence.
- Identify and highlight key information relevant to litigation or administrative proceedings.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for clients and visitors.
- Provide knowledgeable assistance and route inquiries to appropriate legal personnel.
- Perform notary services.
- Assist with organization and management of the legal office’s law library and legal publications.
- Draft routine correspondence.

- Must be a U.S. citizen and possess, or be able to obtain and maintain, a Secret security clearance.
- Must become a Virginia Notary Public within 90 days of the contract start date.
