WindBorne Systems is hiring a part-time, remote Operations Specialist to join our Flight Control team. You'll become an expert at flying our smart weather balloons, making real-time judgment calls to navigate them to specific locations using meteorology, physics, and operational intuition. You will be instrumental in our mission to eliminate weather uncertainty and build a future where the planet is instrumented by thousands of microballoons.
What You'll Do
- Develop specialized knowledge to make quick, accurate decisions on balloon navigation.
- Decide when to avoid adverse weather versus navigate through it.
- Correct for forecast uncertainties during flight operations.
- Push the capabilities of our hardware to reach challenging target locations.
What We're Looking For
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to learn independently in an environment where best practices are constantly evolving.
- Comfort prioritizing and making judgment calls in high-pressure, uncertain environments.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
- Willingness to work unusual hours to achieve mission objectives.
