By Appointment Africa is hiring an Operations Manager for Lewa House within the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. You will lead the smooth operation of all departments—including food & beverage, housekeeping, maintenance, guiding, and logistics—to deliver a personalised guest experience while upholding a sustainability-first ethos. Your core mission is to ensure the lodge runs with efficiency, care, and excellence.
What You'll Do
- Supervise staff across kitchen, housekeeping, laundry, waitstaff, guiding, and gardening teams.
- Organise continuous training to build staff skill levels in line with company policy.
- Ensure cohesive communication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams for seamless guest service.
- Work with department heads to manage daily team schedules, workflow, and coordination.
- Oversee all F&B operations including ordering, inventory, hygiene standards, and sustainable sourcing.
- Work closely with Kitchen and Waiters leads to ensure consistency, quality, and timeliness of meals.
- Maintain dining setup quality and ensure waiters are trained in family-style service.
- Working with leads, maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation across cottages and common areas.
- Supervise gardening and landscaping aligned with Lewa House’s natural aesthetics.
- Oversee general maintenance and repairs, ensuring swift resolution of any issues.
- Support the head of guiding to coordinate guide schedules and ensure guides are well-briefed, professional, and guest-focused.
- Monitor condition and use of safari vehicles: schedule servicing, repairs, and fuel tracking.
- Ensure all vehicle use aligns with operational efficiency and conservation policies.
- Manage purchasing and stock control across departments (F&B, housekeeping, maintenance).
- Monitor vehicle-related expenses and consumption.
- Prepare monthly operational and cost reports for senior management.
- Lead and enforce Lewa House’s sustainability policies across all operations.
- Maintain sustainability operational procedures and reporting.
- Train staff in eco-friendly best practices.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 5-7 years' experience in a senior lodge operations role, including oversight of F&B, guiding, and logistics.
- Strong leadership and organisational abilities with multi-department coordination experience.
- Excellent understanding of eco-tourism operations and sustainability principles.
- Financial acumen for budgeting, stock control, and cost management.
- Strong proficiency in Office 365, Res-Request, and inventory management systems.
- Passion for conservation, guest experience, and working in remote environments.
- Fluent in English.
