Duke University is seeking an Operations Administrator to provide critical on-site operational leadership across the hospital. This role acts with the authority of hospital leadership on a 24-hour basis, including weekends and holidays, requiring independent crisis management, policy interpretation, and timely decision-making that directly impacts patient care and hospital operations.
What You'll Do
- Demonstrate judgment and self-sufficiency in effective problem solving while serving as the primary administrative and operational resource for the hospital.
- Intervene in situations involving patients, visitors, hospital staff, and other external customers.
- Coordinate operations and personnel activities to meet departmental, hospital, and health system objectives.
- Oversee patient care flow, redirecting and allocating resources as necessary.
- Investigate patient and visitor concerns and implement appropriate courses of action.
- Take corrective action in situations requiring immediate intervention, including interpreting and administering hospital policy.
- Facilitate interdepartmental communication, negotiation, and decision-making to resolve issues.
- Obtain adequate facts and evaluate data to identify and intervene in actual or potential safety and risk management issues.
- Communicate pertinent information in a timely manner to hospital administration and department leadership.
- Support clinical, operational, and facility services throughout the entire hospital on a 24-hour basis.
- Coordinate triage activities through communication with the Emergency Department, Bed Control, and Chief Medical Officer.
- Attend Code Five events, participate as needed, and provide feedback.
- Assist Patient Access Services in coordinating patient placement and maintain visibility with staff through rounds.
- Serve as a Notary Public to assist with advance directives.
- Provide on-site management and leadership of crisis situations to prevent or minimize service disruption.
- Function as the on-site coordinator for internal or external disasters or other major events.
- Authorize financial assistance up to $100.00 for patient satisfiers and operational situations.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience, two of which must be clinical.
- Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
- BLS certification.
Nice to Have
- Master's degree.
