About the Role

Merck & Co. is hiring a Regional Medical Scientific Director (RMSD) specializing in Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancers. In this role, you will serve as a credentialed therapeutic expert, engaging in scientific exchange with national and regional Scientific Leaders. You’ll provide balanced, factual information, support research, and gather scientific insights to advance understanding in GI oncology.

What You'll Do

  • Develop professional relationships and engage with national and regional Scientific Leaders to ensure access to medical and scientific information.
  • Conduct peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence with key stakeholders.
  • Address scientific questions and direct inquiries outside your scope to appropriate company resources.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the dynamic scientific and clinical environment in the company's areas of interest.
  • Initiate discussions with Scientific Leaders and potential investigators for scientific and data exchange.
  • Enhance understanding of the scientific foundations and goals of investigator-sponsored research.
  • Identify barriers to patient enrollment and retention to achieve study milestones.
  • Recommend study sites and identify potential investigators for clinical development programs.
  • Conduct Site Initiation Visits (SIVs) and detect barriers to patient enrollment.
  • Address investigator questions regarding participation in company-sponsored clinical studies.
  • Engage in scientific congresses and medical meetings, facilitating scientific and data exchange.
  • Gather feedback, data, or information during routine activities to help the company comprehend medical or scientific needs.

What We're Looking For

  • PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD.
  • Proven competence and a minimum of 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond the terminal degree.
  • Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with key external stakeholders.
  • Dedication to scientific excellence with a strong focus on scientific education and dialogue.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
  • A thorough comprehension of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other ethical guidelines and regulations relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote).
  • Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms.
  • Desire to contribute to an environment of belonging, engagement, equity, and empowerment.
  • Consistent adherence to field and corporate policies and Global Medical Scientific Affairs (GMSA) strategy.

Nice to Have

  • Field-based medical science liaison (MSL) experience.
  • MSL field experience in the GI Oncology practice setting.
  • Therapeutic experience in gastrointestinal cancers (Gastric, Esophageal, Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Colorectal).
  • Established relationships with GI Oncology Scientific Leaders within the geographic region.

Technical Stack

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote).
  • Virtual meeting platforms.

Team & Environment

Serves as a role model for other field medical team members.

  • Compensation: $206,200.00 - $324,600.00.

Work Mode
