Responsibilities
- Identify cases, abstract data, and conduct follow-up for patients diagnosed with cancer.
- Capture complete patient history, diagnosis, staging, and treatment details for all cases entered into the cancer registry, following guidelines from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and the Georgia Central State Cancer Registry.
- Apply cancer data collection principles and assign codes using established systems such as STORE, SEER, ICD-O3, and AJCC Staging 8th Edition to ensure consistency and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Perform quality assurance tasks as assigned, including reviewing abstracted data for accuracy, conducting peer reviews, resolving data edits, performing non-reportable audits to confirm all reportable cases are captured, consolidating multiple data reports into a single record per cancer case, and incorporating additional treatment and follow-up information received after the initial abstract.
- Attend and participate in professional conferences, seminars, or workshops to stay current on cancer registry and treatment developments.
- Comply with HIPAA privacy regulations and other virtual office procedures.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
