About the Role

Norfolk State University is seeking a Nursing Assistant/Associate Professor for a 12-month tenure-track faculty position. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of nursing education by developing, implementing, and evaluating the program's curriculum and objectives. The role blends teaching, student advisement, scholarly research, and active participation in university service.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the philosophy and objectives of the nursing education program.
  • Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the nursing curriculum.
  • Develop and evaluate student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies.
  • Participate in academic advisement and counseling of students.
  • Provide opportunities for student and graduate evaluation of curriculum, teaching, and program effectiveness.
  • Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings for program review.
  • Create and maintain effective collegial relationships with students, faculty, university, and clinical agency staff.
  • Model professional evidence-based nursing sensitive to diverse and multicultural considerations.
  • Establish and maintain professional and ethical boundaries in all learning environments.
  • Participate in University service and events.
  • Abide by University guidelines for achieving promotion and/or tenure.
  • Actively participate in annual scholarly activities including research, grants, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair.

What We're Looking For

  • Earned Master of Science in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Earned terminal degree in nursing or related field (e.g., DNP, PhD, DrPH).
  • Evidence of experience in nursing practice (minimum of five years).
  • A record of scholarly achievement in teaching, research, service, and professional development.
  • A current, unencumbered license as a registered nurse or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia, or ability to obtain one prior to start date.

Nice to Have

  • Substantive specialization or certification in a specialty field or area of research focus.
  • History of funding and/or publications in research.
  • Experience with virtual simulation learning platforms.
  • Knowledge of higher education and nursing accreditation processes.

Team & Environment

You will report directly to the Department Chair and collaborate closely with fellow faculty, staff, and clinical partners.

This is an onsite position located at Norfolk State University.
