Mississippi State University is hiring a Professor of Practice for a non-tenure track role within the Department of Technology, Leadership, & Design. You will be responsible for teaching, student mentorship, curriculum development, and fostering strong connections between the university and industry.
What You'll Do
- Teach a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Industrial Technology.
- Develop and deliver hands-on, project-based learning experiences and industry-aligned curricula.
- Advise undergraduate students and mentor student organizations and competition teams.
- Collaborate on workforce development, outreach, and industry engagement efforts.
- Serve as a liaison between the university and industry or government partners.
- Assist in coordinating and mentoring senior projects, including industry-sponsored and multidisciplinary work.
- Contribute to grant writing, proposal development, and externally funded projects.
- Engage with industry partners to create experiential learning, guest lectures, and internship opportunities.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committees and recruitment.
- Promote a culture of safety and professionalism in lab-based courses and team environments.
- Remain current with industry trends and tools, integrating them into instructional content.
- Assist in assessment and accreditation efforts for ATMAE-aligned learning outcomes.
What We're Looking For
- An earned master's degree in Industrial Technology or its equivalent in professional achievement with at least 18 graduate hours in a relevant discipline.
- Three or more years of industry, government, or applied research experience in applied industrial technology fields.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students.
Nice to Have
- Professional experience in welding technologies such as GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, cutting processes, and welding codes.
- Professional experience in industrial fluid power systems like hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Professional experience in CAD/CAM, CNC machining, or automated manufacturing systems.
- Professional experience in industrial metrology, precision measurement, and quality systems.
- Professional experience in safety program administration and OSHA regulatory compliance.
- Teaching experience in higher education, technical training, or industry-based professional development.
- Experience managing or operating welding labs, machine shops, or industrial safety environments.
- Professional certifications such as AWS, OSHA 30/510, fluid power certification, or manufacturing credentials.
- Demonstrated success collaborating with industry partners on workforce, instructional, or applied research initiatives.
