About the Role

Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is hiring an Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor to join its Shelter Medicine Program. In this role, you will provide high-quality spay/neuter services to shelters and rescue groups while training veterinary students and graduated veterinarians. This is a soft money-funded position with a one-year renewable contract.

What You'll Do

  • Work collegially with staff and faculty to support the vision and mission of the Shelter Medicine Program.
  • Receive mentorship in high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter surgical techniques and in teaching methods.
  • Provide leadership, direction, supervision, training, and assessment for veterinary students and house officers in soft tissue surgical skill acquisition.
  • Accompany, supervise, and teach veterinary students during walk-through consultations at area animal shelters and rescue groups.
  • Provide written plans for improvement, assist in disease outbreak situations, and manage various medical cases within shelters.
  • Contribute to the new Shelter Medicine Clinic.
  • Supervise second-year surgery labs.
  • Assist in medical and surgical care for animals under the stewardship of the Homeward Bound Program.
  • Provide occasional didactic lectures or rounds presentations for veterinary students.
  • Provide limited weekend emergency duty support by phone or in person for Community Veterinary Services boarding patients.
  • Provide surgical skill training to graduated veterinarians.

What We're Looking For

  • DVM or equivalent degree.
  • Ability to obtain licensure in Mississippi.

Nice to Have

  • Teaching and clinical/surgical experience is highly preferred.

Team & Environment

You will join the Shelter Medicine Program, which includes a team of 5 faculty members, 1 rehire retiree, and 3 technicians.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary grade UC (Unclassified). Salary ranges determined by the hiring department.
